  • Brynn Hambley: Postpartum

A phenomenal example of the horror genre! This play uses the typical structure of a horror story to illuminate the terrifying emotions, and perhaps real life experience, of birthing parents that experience postpartum depression/anxiety/psychosis. A deeply effective piece that I don't think I'll ever forget.

An authentically chilling tale, eye-opening and plausible. Performed with care and creepiness on the “Gather by the Ghost Light” podcast!

What makes this horror story so effective is how well grounded it is in naturalistic drama of human emotions, relationships, and life-changing moments -- that Blevins leaves it ambiguous whether we are witnessing a purely psychological horror or that something supernatural is at work is skillfully unsettling.

A chilling look at the urgency and riddle of postpartum depression. This is a tour de force for an actress willing to totally commit.

  • Francis RTM Boyle: Postpartum

Postpartum is a chilling bit of horror that took me by surprise. Jillian's manipulation of a very real medical condition to its primal and distorted envelope is impactful and left me with a pit in my stomach. What begins as a heartfelt conversation with high stakes became a question of reality versus a strange supernatural force.

Very well done. If you want to scare everyone in the audience, produce this.

This starts out very real and relatable. But then...Omigod...So terrifying because it is so real and relatable! This is just what you need in your horror festival. I know I will be having nightmares for a while!

This play has so stuck with me that I am shocked I have not recommended it before now! POSTPARTUM threads the line between what is nightmare and what is reality. Jillian Blevins creates a heart stopping horror that would be the talk of any one act festival. With rich work for actors and audio designers, this play is the sort of thing production teams want to sink their teeth into.

  • Cam Eickmeyer: Postpartum

Absolutely fantastic short play. The characters are so authentic we immediately empathize with them and feel the tiredness, frustration and challenges of early parenthood. The horror elements, and trust me, they are terrifying, are deepened by these very real characters. The ending is just perfect!

Terrifying play. Truly frightening. Has a great build and wonderful tension. It’s more than just spooks and scares. Engaging characters and a horrifying situation. Read this play. You will not be disappointed.

  • Christopher Plumridge: Postpartum

POSTPARTUM is a seriously frightening play, for to begin with the playwright paints a seemingly innocent picture of a young mother struggling, and a father just doing his best. But slowly and menacingly this play grows darker as the red moon glows.
I particularly find the ending of this play to be very clever, for if it ends a page early, you have the makings of a sweet ending full of hop, but no, this goes on to a truly chilling finale.
    Superb!
