Frequently Asked Questions

Popular Questions

Why can’t I download a particular script?

+

Not all writers choose to upload full drafts to their NPX profiles. Some prefer to share samples, while others only share a script’s synopsis, cast breakdown, genre, and so on, with a link to their contact information to allow you to request a full draft. When a writer hasn't uploaded a full draft, the download link is inactive. You can, however, use the available contact form on the writer's profile page (or the writer's representative's contact information) to ask for a copy.

I forgot my password. What should I do?

How do I get the rights to a script I found?

+

We’re so glad that you’re interested in producing a script you found! We do not manage any of the rights or royalties for scripts hosted on our site. To inquire about rights, you need to contact the writer or the writer's representative. On most NPX profiles, you will find a Contact button you can use to reach out to a writer. On some of those profiles, you will also find contact information for the writer’s representative. Good luck!

How can I submit a script to a theater on the New Play Exchange?

+

Submissions are not part of the New Play Exchange. Instead, theaters post opportunities, and if you have a script that’s eligible for one of those opportunities, you will be notified via email. If you’d like to know whether a given theater accepts unsolicited submissions outside of the New Play Exchange, please contact the theater in question or visit the theater’s website.

Why don’t I have access to all of the search filters I’ve heard about?

+

Users with Writer and Actor subscriptions can look up scripts by title and author name. To use our search filters, you can upgrade to a Writer Pro or Actor Pro subscription. Just visit the Billing page (under the Profile tab) and click the Upgrade button next to the subscription you're interested in. You will only be charged the difference in subscription cost.

What’s the difference between a Higher Education subscription and an Organization subscription?

+

A Higher Education subscription provides access for an entire school population: students, faculty, and staff, all of whom are able to look up scripts, download and read them, and contact writers. An Organization subscription is meant to be used by ONE person managing the NPX profile of an organization. That one person can search for scripts and contact writers, in addition to sharing opportunities with writers as well.

How do I join NNPN?

+

Only producing theaters are members of NNPN. If you run a professional not for profit theater with a particular passion for new plays, you can find out more HERE

As an individual, you can share your work by becoming an NPX subscriber or developing a relationship with one of our theaters and having them advocate for your work. All projects, programs, and awards from NNPN must be applied for through a Member Theater.
