Dang, y'all. The individual pieces of Reykjavik are magical or menacing or both; collectively they add up to a whole that delivers a disturbing and satisfying emotional wallop. Sexy, dangerous, and weirdly compassionate, Reykjavik is hell of a meal.

REYKJAVÍK by Steve Yockey is receiving a National New Play Network Rolling World Premiere. The partnering NNPN Member Theaters are Actor's Express (Atlanta, GA), Rorschach Theatre (Washington, DC), Kitchen Dog Theatre (Dallas, TX), and Southern Rep Theatre (New Orleans, LA).

Is this the Yockiest of the Yockey? It might be, and that only means the best possible things. Lyrical, moving, real, poignant, otherworldly, scary... Steve covers it all and seemingly seamlessly. A beautiful read that would no doubt be even more beautiful fully rendered.

There is an intimacy that Steve Yockey finds with the disturbed that transcends everything else I’ve ever read. REYKJAVÍK is overflowing with gorgeous pieces of dialogue, mystifying theatrical feats, and a vulnerability that would make it a delight and challenge to tackle in production. I am thrilled that this play is being done at Actor's Express as I am desperate to see it! #PlaywrightPlug

Another deeply moving and simultaneously disturbing play from Steve Yockey. Reykjavik is one that stayed with me for days with the vivid images it burns into your imagination. I cannot recommend enough this wonderfully sinister play.

Oh, wow. Oh, wow. I have just read the most marvelous thing and it is Reykjavik by Steve Yockey. This play is about as close to perfection as you get. I could talk about the gorgeous dialogue, the unique characters, the fascinating lay out, the opportunities for technical wizardry, but all I want to talk about is the sheer perfection of the story. A story--or a group of stories--that weave in and out of each other with such an effortless quality. This play is a masterpiece with one of the most intentional stories I've ever read. Highly, highly recommended.

I loved this. I found it so enthralling and enigmatic and moving and funny. Yockey is such a wonderful, singular voice, and this play in particular is a disturbing and delightful treat.

Reykjavik is one of the gutsiest and most enthralling plays I have read this year. There is a fascinating aspect of this play that is interrogating, lampooning, and honoring the elements of queer hookup culture that are very specific to queerness, specifically cis gay males. There is a specific moment in this play that is so true to queer experience, particularly queer people who come from families and communities who are not entirely supportive, and once I read the words it was amazing to realize I had never read them written down that way before. Highly recommended!! Love it!
