Had the pleasure and privilege to see a staged reading of this at Dayton FutureFest 2025, and man, is it something. Just excellent. Hilariously funny, but then you start to think about what you're laughing at, and, oh, the moral dilemma there. The play zips along and keeps you guessing and laughing the whole time. After it was finished, there was much pondering by me in terms of the questions that it raised. I can't wait to see this again. One of the most brilliant dark comedies I've ever seen.

    Prayer Circle checks every box:
Is it about something important? Yes.
Is it entertaining? Yes — wildly so.
Does it ask us the question so many great plays ask, which is — what would we do in this situation? Yes.
Are the roles distinct and rich and is the humor character-driven? Yes.
Is there a gasp-inducing moment we never saw coming? Yes.
My response to Prayer Circle is, YES, on every count possible.

I heard this read at the Valdez Theatre Conference and it was definitely one of the best pieces on offer at the event. Equal parts quirky small-town ensemble piece and full-grown horror story, the play starts small and continually builds in stakes and tension until the fate of the world sits on these characters' shoulders, and we're with them every step of the way. Equal parts funny and horrifying, and spectacularly timely, with a fantastic coda at the end.
