I had the pleasure to perform this script at a reading at Lesley a while back, and I was struck by the richness of the relationship and the snappy, authentic dialogue. A fun two-hander that has a lot of punch in all the right ways.

This is one sharp, funny, and quietly empowering play. In a basement a self-defense lesson turns into a story about voice, agency, and reclaiming yourself. Something larger and unexpected. The dialogue crackles with Lynn's humor while the emotional punches land just as cleanly.

This is pure fun. I love the characters, the set-up, and the vicarious sense of support for any woman who can relate to Missy’s anger. So satisfying.

You had me at "ball gown."
Patricia Lynn's hilarious two-hander is a terrific play about friendship, class and knowing what to fight for. It's a wonderful piece that is perfect for two actors, a fight choreographer and a costume designer. They will all go nuts, and the audience will love them for it.

I had the pleasure of attending a recent reading of "An Honest Lesson in Self Defense" and would love to see this play in full production -- imagine a self defense lesson while wearing a ball gown and heels!

I love the interplay between these two characters! Patricia Lynn has explored a dynamic between amicable-enough exes who were high school sweethearts and raises some intriguing questions about what exactly self-defense is... it has a broader definition than you may think. I really enjoyed the history and relationship between Missy and Carter and love the visual image of a debutante throwing punches in a ball gown and high heels!
