Very sad I missed the production at Red Theatre. This script is described as a "comma, not a period." and if that ain't the troot?
Kime tackles this script with so much humor and it is a beautiful piece for a femme ensemble.

A play about consumption and being consumed and what happens when you get spit back out. Kime finds so many thematic angles in the nature of hot dogs that it's genuinely unexpected how the play manages to tie them all together by the end. But it does, and it's a humorous, terrifying, unabashedly loud ride. Enormous theatricality, and well served by a strong world premiere at Red Theater.

What a tense, rapid-fire, unhinged, darkly brilliant, and stunningly theatrical play! Behind the absurd and high-stakes scenario is a lacerating satire about what women put their bodies through in order to win. By the end, the audience is indicted as voyeurs of watching each finely-etched character put her health and well-being on the line for our entertainment. I cannot wait to see this play staged soon!

I attended a reading at Red theater and have not stopped thinking about this play since. It casts a spell on you. You'll be taken on a ride. You won't want to get off.

Unconventional in every way, this play demands to be staged.

This is SUCH a fun and innovative play! Unlike hot dogs, this play is packed full of good stuff: cacophonic moments, smart humor, fantastic characters, thought-provoking themes, and theatrical spectacle. Gather some friends and just read it to hear the music of the play. Or better yet - Produce It!!

Premiere Stages, the professional Equity theatre company in residence at Kean University, is pleased to recognize Dogs by Hanna Kime as a Semi-Finalist for the 2024 Premiere Play Festival. Dogs rose through a competitive selection process conducted by Premiere staff and a panel of outside theatre professionals to become one of 48 Semi-Finalists out of 760 submissions. The panel was particularly impressed by Hanna’s ability to create such well drawn characters, giving each contestant a clear and unique reason for engaging in the competition. Our congratulations and thanks to Hanna.

I really loved this ensemble piece. A play filled with complex female characters. A play about ambition and doing whatever it takes to do the thing that gives you purpose. I'd love to see this play produced someday.
