This play is unlike anything on NPX. The sounds, the poetics, the choreography, the history and all the emotion. It all builds in a forward movement that rarely slows down. A captivating play on language and identity, history and culture. The monologue starting on page 83 would be a killer audition piece.

The community of National Committee readers for the 47th Bay Area Playwrights Festival advanced Me No Known Korean as a Semi-Finalist at Playwrights Foundation. We found that the play’s central conceit was hilarious and rich. Korean-speaking readers particularly celebrated the clever (mis)usage of Korean to create multilingual puns. We hope this play is considered for further development and investigation, and finds dedicated collaborators in this play’s journey towards production.

A play about Korean, and a laugh until you cry elegy that holds anyone who failed to learn a language well enough core (Kor) to their identity. I saw a reading of this play last night and it blew me away, the scene with Grandpapoots is theatrical brilliance & did that rare theatrical thing where you're like "Jesus Christ, I'm laughing, & I'm meant to be, but it's so awful! What the f---!" Ashil is a mad genius with a giant heart; I can't wait to see this play fully realized, hopefully very soon.
