It's extremely funny even as it pushes buttons and weighs large conceptual ideas, but it never sacrifices its character development for jokes. The central four characters are immensely rich and well-defined. Adrienne never lets us settle into one alignment - She constantly adds new details and layers, forcing us to reconsider where we stand among them. Brilliant work all around.

    Dupe is an incredibly complex tour-de-force for 4 incredible women actors. Dupe weaves together the complexities of literary publication, trauma from family separation, and cultural appropriation. There are delightful misunderstandings between many of the characters that only add to the intrigue of the play.

    I had the pleasure of seeing this play at the GPTC New Plays Conference in 2024, and it came across as incredibly complex and thought-out. It's a fascinating piece with humor and a lot of layers, touching on a lot of cultural issues.

    I had the pleasure of engaging in a feedback discussion about DUPE with The Athena Project, and it was such a fantastic conversation. The reception was overwhelmingly positive, which is no surprise: DUPE is electrifying, exciting, edge-of-your-seat, twisty-turny fun. The mirrors upon mirrors, the twinning upon twinning --- it's funny, but it's also dark and kind of scary. I loved the play and am so glad that this was my introduction to Dawes' writing. Highly recommend!

    Premiere Stages, the professional Equity theatre in residence at Kean University, is pleased to recognize DUPE by Adrienne Dawes as a Semi-Finalist for the 2022 Premiere Play Festival. DUPE rose through a competitive selection process conducted by Premiere staff and a panel of outside theatre professionals to become one of 35 semifinalists out of 655 submissions. The panel was particularly impressed by the sharp, tight dialogue that captures all the different and often contradictory sides of the twins’ relationship. Our congratulations and thanks to Adrienne.
