I cannot stop thinking about (and raving about!) this play since I saw it this summer at the Tank. An absolutely brilliant absurdist romp that gave me everything I didn't know I wanted. Deeply affecting and absolutely hilarious- with some of the best holocaust jokes in any piece. Burger, Fuck, Mother, and Father are such real people despite the absurdism of the play, wonderful hysterical and meaty roles for actors. A play about how our mothers are people and what the fuck do we do with that?

An absurd play that knows how to use all the conventions of theatre. It has so much heart, too. It's a play about a family of people that really love each other but also know how to let go when it's necessary. I loved the relationship between Burger and Fuck. They care so deeply for each other. I was moved when Burger questions whether her affection for Fuck is a good or bad thing when it comes to his growth. This play asks deep questions like that while also being hilarious. I loved all the outrageous stage directions.

Playwrights Foundation congratulates BERLINDIA! as an Honorable Mention for the 45th Bay Area Playwrights Festival in 2022. Our Literary Council advocated strongly for the unique way the playwright creates an elusive, fantastical world that is fun and constantly in motion. We highly enjoyed the play's dramatic questions about being separated from people and places you love, and if those people & places are constantly changing, how do you stay connected to them, and find them again? Is loss change and is change loss? Can they be separated? We encourage producers to consider this work for further collaboration and production. #BAPF45
