These are the realities that still haunt his father, Achilles Jones, one year later as he works tirelessly to repair his run down hardware store before Icarus---who is now away at college---comes home. His plans get more complicated however, when he hires a volunteer to help him named Odysseus, a charismatic young man who smells like the ocean and has a history of drug abuse. A superb play that explores Black gay male identity, Black masculinity, family, forgiveness, and much more with a deft and nuanced hand. The characters' distinct voices come off the page and Icarus' lyrical yet naturalistic monologues/journey punctuate and illuminate the evolving and cautious relationship of Odysseus and Achilles well. I loved that queerness was explored as something that didn't always result in the dissolution of family and parent abandonment, but whose impact on one's life is complex and thorny and inescapable. The theatricality of the piece is glorious as well--I'd love to...

A rich and powerful way to tell this story, incredibly raw and beautifully told. The struggles of a father and a son with the emotions packed in boiling to the surface with such resonance. Well done!
