A beautiful, hilarious, touching, and very real look at the broken immigration system that allows children to be imprisoned at the San Diego Convention Center during the Covid shut down. Highly recommend.

The show’s youth is its biggest strength. It taps into gen-z humor very well, as well as providing some timeless references/jokes about the Latino experience in the United States. The play is beautifully theatrical. We see the detention center, not through overly-explained stage directions regarding the set, but through tiny details nested in the writing. Must read!

The community of National Committee readers for the 47th Bay Area Playwrights Festival advanced Our Lady of the San Diego Convention Center as a Semi-Finalist at Playwrights Foundation. We felt this script was a timely, remarkably human exploration of friendship and migration. We hope this play is considered for further development and investigation, and finds dedicated collaborators in this play’s journey towards production.
