Sarah Laughed

Angel informs, Sarah, the 90-year old wife of Abraham, that she will soon be ‘with child’. Much to Angel’s surprise, Sarah is not immediately overjoyed; in fact, it seems she has not been spending the last 60 years praying for a baby but has kept herself pretty busy improving the world. Now, faced with this new challenge, what will she do?

  • Morey Norkin: Sarah Laughed

What a clever retelling of the biblical story of Sarah. Michele Miller updates the language and provides plenty of humor in this pointed takedown of patriarchal society and women’s lack of bodily autonomy. The repartee between Sarah and Angel is crisp, irreverent, and just plain funny. And what a great ending. This would be a terrific addition to any short play festival.
