Nothing like a road trip to engender a metamorphosis. This gorgeous play takes the titanic themes of motherhood, childhood, culture, time, and mortality, and distills it into lovely, gentle poetry that dares to ask: despite all the dangers of the desert, will you still walk along with me?

This has all the makings of a modern classic Japanese-American road trip story. Even on the page, this dialogue & stage direction & subtext absolutely shimmers, layered & real & surreal & precise & ragged in the best way. There is so much here for everybody involved in this production to sink their teeth into, from actors to lighting designer, & it's a lucky audience (hopefully many audiences!) that get to see the whole thing pulled together.

A beautiful and blessed exploration of mother-child relationships and the legacy of generational pain. The play's brilliant structure and whip-smart dialogue had me leaning in from beginning to end.
